About

I’m Brian Lloyd Duckett - my friends call me ‘Dux’ - and I’m a UK-based documentary and street photographer.

It all started when . . .

My interest in photography started at school where I had access to a darkroom, the encouragement of a great art teacher (thank you, Mr Freear) and a firm belief that ‘the guy with the camera’ would be more attractive to girls (sadly, I was wrong). I had my first newspaper picture published at the age of 14; it was of a dead dog in a litter bin.

And now . . .

I’m a documentary and street photographer and I shoot news, commissioned features and personal projects. I’m also a partner in a commercial photography business, shooting for corporate annual reports, advertising campaigns and other marketing collateral.

But my real passion has always been for street photography and I run StreetSnappers, the London-based street photography hub.

The Fujifilm connection

I’m a brand ambassador for Fujifilm (an ‘Official Fujifilm X-Photographer’) and use the company’s gear exclusively. I also work closely with Formatt Hitech, whose filter system I rate highly.

Workshops

I run documentary and street photography workshops around the UK and in European cities such as Lisbon, Prague, Venice and Paris – with other cities to follow. I lead workshops for small groups and I also run one-to-one workshops and mentoring programmes. I teach as a Visiting Lecturer on photography degree courses and I lecture at camera clubs across the UK.

Books

My first book, ‘Mastering Street Photography’, has become an international best-seller and the follow-up – ’52 Assignments: Street Photography’ – is hot on its heels (both published by Ammonite Press). My third book is ‘52 Assignments: Black & White Photography’ has just been published. I also write for travel and photography magazines and have self-published numerous photo books.

Outside of photography, my passions for tennis and sailing almost compensate for my love of food & wine. Oh, and I’m a pushover for all things Italian
