PUBLISH YOUR ZINE WITH DUX BOOKS

WHAT IS DUX BOOKS?

We design, print, sell and market your documentary or street photography zine - all at no cost to you. We take all the hassle, the risk and the cost out of zine publishing, bringing it within everyone’s reach.

Dux Books publishes street and documentary photography projects and we aim to produce at least one zine each month in out first year, increasing capacity in subsequent years.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

If we agree to publish your street or documentary photography zine, simply send us your images and up to 250 words of introductory text - and we do the rest. It’s as simple as that!

Each zine will have a First Edition limited print run of 100 copies which will have a retail cover price of £9. We will send you 40 free copies of your zine to do with as you wish; you can sell them or give them away - it’s up to you - and these 40 copies won’t cost you a penny.

Remember - this costs you absolutely nothing.

Once the zine has sold out we may publish a second edition (and subsequent editions) and in this case we’ll send you a further batch of 40 zines for every edition published - always at no cost to you.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

There are 5 big benefits of publishing your zine using Dux Books:

  1. Firstly, you eliminate the hassles, the risks and the costs involved in self-publishing. You don’t need design skills or knowledge of the print process - we do everything for you.

  2. There’s no cost to you whatsoever and no risk that you’ll be left with boxes of zines if your project doesn’t sell.

  3. Your work will be designed and printed to a high standard.

  4. We’ll use our contacts and extensive reach within the street photography world to market your zine to the widest possible audience. Zines will be available for sale on the Dux Books website and will be promoted via social media - with an emphasis on Instagram. Remember, once we have sold out of our stock of copies, a new print run will be commissioned and you’ll receive another batch of free zines. In short, we’ll do our best to get your work - and your name - out there.

  5. There will also be an element of endorsement (dare we say ‘prestige’?) in having your work published by a specialist independent publisher and your zine will be on sale alongside many other street photographers’ work.

HIGH QUALITY DESIGN + PRINTING

Our zines all follow a similar format. We have a strong design ethos and put as much effort into the design, layout and editing as you put into the image creation. Each zine  will be printed as follows:

  • 18 to 42 images

  • Design and layout work undertaken by Dux

  • Printed to 190 × 230mm (‘wide portrait’ portrait orientation - much more impactful than A5!))

  • 130gsm stock with 250gsm cover

  • Staple bound

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We are interested in seeing your street and documentary photography projects, whatever the subject matter. Your submission needs to be a ‘project’ rather than merely a collection of images.

As a rough guide, your project should consist of around 24-30 images, either in colour or black & white. Images should be submitted as low resolution JPEGs at 1500px on the longest side.

The images must be accompanied by a short statement about your body work ( a couple of paragraphs is fine). Please also include links to your website and socials so that we can better understand you and your work.

Published photographers will receive 25 free copies of their published zine (worth £300 at the cover price of £12).

Subsequent editions may be released and the you would again receive 25 free copies for each edition.
